People and food combined into the Community Meal at the Salvation Army yesterday.

The Salvation Army in Swift Current hosts a Wednesday night community meal every week. This meal offers everyone the chance to come together, eat a hot supper, and enjoy the company of others. It's always free, always freshly made, and always open to everyone.

Yesterday, the weekly supper consisted of Thanksgiving hallmarks like turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and more.

Inviting everyone through the chappel doors to join them was Lieutenants Bill and Renee Mailman of the Swift Current Salvation Army.

"This is just our regular Wednesday Night Community Meal that just happens to be Thanksgiving," said Bill. "Our meal coordinator thought it would be great to have our Thanksgiving dinner with everyone."

The meal was enjoyed by a huge host of folks. There were so many at one point, that they broke out extra tables. Kids, adults, families and friends were able to join in and enjoy turkey dinner together, sharing in the spirit of togetherness that Thanksgiving brings.

"I think it really promotes exactly the kind of values that we want," said Renee. "That as a community we can come together and that we can be a place where people can gather safely, where all are welcome to come and join together to celebrate not only our weekly meals but these holiday meals as well."

The Wednesday Night Community Meal is open again next week. Folks looking to give it a try are encouraged to come out and enjoy a plate.

"We're always so grateful to this wonderful community who is so good at supporting the Salvation Army and all that we do here," said Renee. "We couldn't do what we do without the support of so many people in this community."
