The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre gathered in downtown Swift Current yesterday afternoon for their fifth annual lunch fundraiser.

Executive Director of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre, Icasiana de Gala, said that the fundraiser serves multiple purposes within the community.

“We never really do fundraisers,” she explained. “This is the only one and it's more of an awareness actually to the community, and promotion of diversity, that money comes second.”

Funds that are raised during the lunch event will be going towards helping provide clients of the Newcomer Welcome Centre with immediate essential needs such as: diapers, groceries, and winter clothes.

Individuals could purchase a plate at market square for 15 dollars which included food and beverages from five different cultures.

De Gala added that the total raised from yesterday's event was over $2,000.
