The Cypress Health Region continues to plan and work on its capital project in Leader.

Brenda Schwan is the Vice-President of Continuing Care and Capital Projects. She says the Leader project experienced some unfortunate delays because the proposed construction costs were higher than expected. In January, the initial call for tenders was cancelled to find cost reductions.

"We're at the stage right now that we're working on 99 per cent of the drawings - so that will be the budget, the drawings and specifications that we'll have at the end of the week. Then we'll internally review them and submit them to the Ministry of Health for approval," she said.

The $12 million project will include the addition of acute care, emergency medical services and a universal care uni to the existing Western Seniors Citizens Home.

"We're hopeful that by late summer, we can be re-tendering this project in Leader," Schwan said.
