The RM of Swift Current will have an election for a new reeve next month.

Current counciller Trent Regier will be challenging incumbent Bob Neufeld for the position.

"If we can provide a united front, there's benefits to us," Regier said, "there's potential for permanent jobs for people moving in, that could mean some residential development for us, or filling up some of the residential we already have, it could mean a stronger economic region."

Regier also added one of the bigger issues for the R-M lately has been its relationship with the City of Swift Current and said the city and RM form a large region with a huge economic potential. .

"It's not about selling out to the city, it's about working with our community partners in the best interest of the ratepayers in the RM, there is opportunities for economic growth, that both the city and the RM would benefit from."

He noted he wants to continue to work with their counterparts in the City of Swift Current to help increase economic development in the region, while working in the best interests of ratepayers, and that is especially true with the potential of a large-scale development by SaskPower, with Swift Current recently named one of four possible locations for a new electrical generation plant.

The election for Reeve takes place on October 24th.
