Earlier this month, an escape room set out to scare up some funds for one local organization, and have been successful in their goal.

Around the middle of October, Dead Prairie Productions and Get a Clue Escape Rooms started their "Wanna Play a Game" charity escape room raising money for the Swift Current SPCA.

The escape room featured horror and puzzle aspects, seeking to bring participants into a world of fear and mystery.

Devon Oman, a producer with Dead Prairie Productions, was able to use his background in horror movie making to turn the venue into a Halloween horror house.

He talked about the reactions from those brave enough to enter.

"We had people crying, we had people begging to get out of the room, we had people tucked in the corner hiding their eyes, we definitely traumatized a few people I think, not that we were trying to on purpose."

"Some of the stuff, I never experienced in my life through all my haunted house experiences, I never seen anything like that. We had a girl literally jump six feet backwards and fall on the ground."

A waiver needed to be signed to participate in the fundraiser.

After every run-through of the room, everything needed to be reset, which volunteers for the event helped to do.

The event was nearly sold out each occurrence, and raised $2,015 for Swift Current's no-kill shelter.

Over the years, Oman has raised nearly 20,000 for the Swift Current SPCA. His work in the community garnered him a nomination for Citizen of the Year at the recent SCBEX awards.

"I truly appreciate everyone nominating me for that, and to get into the top three, its amazing to be considered in there with the other two people that were nominated."

He added that they might do the event next year as well, but would make it a whole new experience if so.
