New Year's Eve is often thought of as a wild party night, but a few groups around the southwest are running celebrations that should be fun for the whole family.

The Family Resource Centre is holding their free Family Fun New Year's Eve Party from 5-10pm, while it's also Family Fun Night throughout the evening at the Lion's Hall in Leader.

"The family with the children are invited to come and celebrate," said Director of the Family Resource Centre Louise Bacque. "We'll have countdowns at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm."

"We'll also have the bouncy house, we'll have music, a DJ, we'll dance, we'll have some activities for the whole family."

This is the second year for their event.

"It's a lot of fun," Bacque said. "Last year we did it and it was a good success. A lot of people were talking about it for a long time... we had the little ones coming early and going home to bed early, and we had the older kids coming later."

Leader's event starts at 6:45pm and runs until the new year.

"The whole community is invited to this," said Leader Recreation Director Debbie Hintz. "It's geared around families with children and stuff, but we invited Grandma and Grandpa to come along and have fun too."

The alcohol free party is a bit of a throwback.

"Like the old fashioned barn dances we used to have years ago," Hintz said. "We'll teach them a couple of old time dances like learning how to do the butterfly."

The party in Leader costs $15 for the family or $5 per person and starts at 6:45pm.
