A festive annual event is back this year at the Swift Current Museum.

The festival of minis is a chance for the community to come and take in decorated trees over a two-week period as museum visitor attendant Corla Rokochy explains.

"The displays are created by members of the community. People that come to visit the festival can buy a ticket for a dollar to vote on the favorite tree or as many votes as they like and then at the end of the festival we do a draw and someone wins each of the displays."

Rokochy adds that the money from votes cast on each of the displays goes towards the charity of the creator's choice.

There are still some trees available as Rokochy details.

"We have some trees here that we have purchased so they are of no cost to the charity, they just have to come up with some fabulous decorations. We have had daycares with the kids creating the decorations so it's a fun project and then the trees look fabulous."

The trees will be on display at the museum from December 1st until the 15th and the Grinch will also be making an appearance over the two-week time period.

Any individuals or organizations interested in decorating a tree can contact the museum at 306-778-2765 or on their Facebook page.

Rokochy says that the display does not have to be a traditional tree and last year they also had some cross-stitch, wreath, and gingerbread entries. Displays should just be unique and have a festive feel.

According to Rokochy, overall they are just looking to bring the community together and give back.
