The Swift Current First United Church is holding their yearly "Dis and Das" silent auction and dinner to raise money for an orphanage in Nepal tonight.

"I travelled to Nepal and met the three Sisters who run a school to train young women to become guides and porters, which is cutting edge work in that country. They also have an orphanage where there are about 17 young girls between the ages of maybe five and seventeen, eighteen and the money we raise at the auction goes towards the orphanage," said Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood.

The auction begins at 5pm and the by donation dinner starts at 6pm. On the menu are the traditional Nepalese foods dahl bhat and naan bread.

Afterwards a brief PowerPoint presentation about the Three Sisters and the orphanage will be shown.

"There's lots of fabulous art from that country and pashminas and scarves and jewellery. So the three Sisters sent that stuff back with me when I came back in November and some of it I brought back but there's some really, really nice stuff in the auction," said Reverend Ferguson-Hood.

The money raised will mean that the women can continue with further education and then go on to college.

"It's going to mean that the girls can continue with further education and then go on to college. So our hope is to raise between 3 and 4 thousand dollars. If we do, that kind of money pays for a lot of education in Nepal," said Reverend Ferguson-Hood.

Reverend Ferguson-Hood hopes to raise $4000 for the cause this year, topping last years amount which was $3000.
