Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson takes part in a ceremonial "break" on the pool table in the newly-renovated Great Plains College Student Lounge

The official grand-opening of the Swift Current campus of Great Plains College was held Friday afternoon.

The College underwent a $13.5 million expansion and renovation that was jointly funded by the Federal and Provincial Governments.

Claire Melhoff is the Director of Administration for the college and says the new campus is an investment in the future of Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan, saying she doesn't think there is any facility like this with a state-of-the-art shop space and upgraded classrooms and technology, and says students coming to the college will learn skills that will take them into the future for many years.

Melhoff adds it's very gratifying to see everything come to completion:

Premier Brad Wall was one of the guest speakers, and was also a Grade 8 and 9 student at the building during its years as Beatty School. He says it's great to see what the facility has become today, and adds Great Plains College and the Provincial Regional College system will be a big part of the future growth of Saskatchewan.

Swift Current City Councillor Denis Perreault and Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson were also on hand for the event.
