A Family Day celebration invited Swift Current residents to ponder adding a new member to their homes.

The Swift Current SPCA organized its Fetch a Family event on Monday afternoon at the Swift Current Mall, turning the spotlight on adorable adoptables.

Fundraising manager for the local animal shelter, Ashley Muhle, said the day was a huge success in many ways.

"It went really good, we had a lot of people come out," she said. "We're really happy with it. We got some applications in for some of our puppies, so we're hoping we can find some homes for them."

The afternoon event featured six husky mix puppies all from Venus's litter, and three affectionate cats including Leon, Spike, and young three-legged Tips who has adjusted to tri-pawd life with flying colours.

SPCA calendars and quilts were also available for purchase throughout the afternoon, and staff were on site answering questions and connecting with the community.

"The planet litter was [a hit]," Muhle said. "They played themselves out, they fell asleep and they were just adorable, and everybody seemed to love them. We're planning to do some more events with more puppies in the future."

Although only Venus's puppies were present at the Fetch a Family event, the SPCA also shared exciting news about two other canine families. Morgan, a basset mix, and Fran, a husky mix, each have nine of their own puppies that will soon be able to go to their forever homes.

As the organization continues its mission to find loving homes for all the animals in its care, they look forward to future events in the community and making a positive impact on both animals and families alike.
