Things are starting to settle down after a wild first day of spring yesterday, but there are still some problem spots on area highways.

The Trans-Canada Highway has fully re-opened through Swift Current after it had been closed since Wednesday evening. Highway 1 was shut down from Gull Lake to as far as Regina for several hours as the highway reported very dangerous conditions, and a number of vehicle collisions and jack-knifed semis. Although the highway has re-opened, the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is reporting that Highway 1 westbound is down to one lane four kilometres east of Swift Current.

Travel is still not being recommended on many other highways throughout the southwest, with many still having icy spots and reduced visibilities in blowing snow. Travel is also not being advised for Highway 4 from Cadillac north into the Rosetown area, and Highway 32 from Swift Current to Cabri. There are also a number of roads still closed in the Vanguard, Gravelbourg, Hodgeville and Moose Jaw areas, and Highway 1 is still closed between Mortlach and Regina.

For the latest road conditions, call the Highway Hotline at 1-888-335-7623 for the latest highway conditions, or click the road report link at Swift Current Online.

Meanwhile, a blowing snow warning continues for the Swift Current area, with strong winds causing white-out conditions in blowing snow through this afternoon.
