The snow has prompted the Swift Current Fire Department to speak up with some travel tips.

In a social media post, the Fire Department shared some helpful advice, and prudent caution, for everyone travelling now that the snow has arrived.

"It is important to be prepared for potential travelling challenges as visibility may be suddenly reduced and surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulated snow and ice," - Swift Current Fire Department, per the original post.

First and foremost on the list of tips was Stay Informed. They encouraged folks to listen to local news and weather for updates, in order to stay up to date on conditions.

Next, they encouraged Safe Travel. With roads being slick with possible ice, snow, and moisture, it is important to drive with caution. Motorists are asked to reduce speed for road conditions and to allow for a safe stopping distance.

The third item listed is an Emergency Kit. This handy piece of preparedness includes things for any vehicle, like water, blankets, and non-perishable food. Other items that should be found within the list are flashlights, clothing, and a charged mobile phone.

They not only encouraged installing winter tires but even to learn more about winterizing their vehicle here. For a local insight, check out this article

Another important thing to remember now that the snow is back is to Clear Snow and Ice. Before any motorist departs for travel, they need to remember to clear away any snow or ice coating the vehicle. If it isn't removed, it may become hazardous to the vehicle in question, and others travelling in proximity.

Finally, they asked everyone to make sure their vehicle had a Check Up. Making sure breaks, batteries, and fluids are all in good order can help ensure no one ends up broken down or stuck in unfortunate circumstances.

"Your safety is our top priority. Please take this advisory seriously and make the necessary preparations to ensure your well-being during this upcoming winter weather event. Stay Safe!", - Swift Current Fire Department, per the original post.

Lastly, it's always prudent to check the Highway Hotline for any delays, incidents, or road closures before heading out on the road.
