A long-time MLA in Saskatchewan is not running for re-election.

Yogi Huyghebaert is stepping down after representing the Wood River constituency for the Saskatchewan Party since 2000. He was re-elected to the legislature in 2003, 2007 and 2011, where he received 82% of the popular vote.

In a statement this morning, Premier Brad Wall thanked Huyghebaert for his years of service both in the legislature, and to his country in his 33 years with the Canadian Forces. He added that he expects a strongly contested nomination meeting in Wood River, as the party begins to confirm its slate of candidates for the next election, expected in 2016.

Wall himself will be nominated as the Sask Party's candidate for Swift Current next month.
