Initial reports from witnesses stated gunshots were caught on video footage, however it has been confirmed by RCMP officials that no shots were fired, as only suppression equipment was used.

A witness has provided video of a shot being fired. The video is at the bottom of the story.

UPDATE: 9:41 a.m.

Witness reports RCMP have taken one male into custody, and that the loud sounds were either two explosions or gunshots.

Folks are reminded to stay clear of the area, and that motorists should listen to RCMP directing them away. 

 

UPDATE: 9:32 a.m.

RCMP are currently in a standoff by Seventh Street Northwest and Herbert Street in Swift Current. 

RCMP are currently confronting wanted individual(s), and there is reports of firearms being involved. 

Residents in the area are reporting loud sounds.

 

ORIGNAL STORY: 9:17 a.m.

RCMP are advising the public to keep their distance as they have an increased presence in the west central part of Swift Current. 

The official release states that they are currently undertaking an investigation. 

Motorists will have to follow the directions of officers on scene. 

The increased RCMP presence is expected to last for an indeterminate amount of time.
