A group of people discuss the integrated facility at one of the interaction stations at the meeting. The boards will be set up again at several events and facilities in Swift Current through the consultation process.

A large crowd took the first public consultation meeting on a conceptual Integrated Facility for Swift Current last night at the Credit Union iplex.

The facility is planned to be built near the Hospital, and include a Catholic and Public K-8 school, a long-term care facility, and various city recreation facilities including an aquatic centre, fieldhouse and library.

Representatives from the four parties involved were in attendance, and Swift Current Mayor Jerrod Schafer says they heard some good feedback from the public.

Schafer adds he was pleased with the turnout, with a good cross-section of the community on hand.

Meanwhile, Cypress Health Region CEO Beth Vachon says they've had a lot of people asking how the model of long-term care could look like with the new facility.

The meeting did not have an "open mike" format, but rather had stations with the four parties involved to allow the public to interact and voice concerns.

James Youck, Principal Architecht with P3A Architecture, helped facilitate the consultation process, and says the format allows for a larger discussion.

Randy Beler, Chairman of the Chinook School Board, says he received a good amount of feedback on the school.

Mark Corbin, the chairman of the Holy Trinity Catholic School Board, says many people they talked with believe the planned location of the school is ideal.

The public consultation process will continue in August and September with another meeting planned for September 7.
