A large crowd was on hand for the CP Holiday Train as it rolled into Swift Current Sunday afternoon.

Terri Clark, Dallas Smith, and Kelly Prescott vitalized that large crowd with their music, and it was a wintry feel as some snow came down as they started to play.

"Honestly I think that's the most people we've ever had out for our Holiday Train," said Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault. "I don't know what the count was, but it was packed. It was really exciting. Normally we have it during the week, and it's usually a lot colder. So to have them come through the Sunday afternoon - especially with the weather we had - was absolutely perfect."

CP gives a cheque to communities it stops in during its tour, and the Salvation Army - who was collecting non-perishable food donations at the event - received a $5,500 donation from CP.

"Salvation Army set a target last year and they surpassed it; they set a target again this year, and I'm pretty sure they're going to pass it again," said Perrault. "Our community of Swift is so generous - not just with dollars but with their time, with the food donations, and with everything they're able to do to help make Christmas special for everyone in the southwest and in Swift, so we're very thankful for all the work, all the volunteers, and the team at Salvation Army, for all the good they do."

Once the music finished, the train got on its way to Maple Creek.
