A Swift Current man spends his spare time giving away free smiles while wearing a clown nose.

Yesterday, on the corner of Chaplin Street and 1st Avenue Northwest, Matthew Drummond stood holding a sign that advertised his free smiles to passing motorists.

"I wanted to see more people smiling," Drummon said. "I've been in a lot situations when I wasn't smiling and I've been inspired by a few people on the internet. I get a lot of waves, a lot of smiles, a few what-the-heck looks and sometimes all three from the same person. This will be my second time out with a sign, the first time with this sign."

Drummond says that a local business, Signs 'n Such, printed his latest sign as a gift. He says that his sole motivation is to spread a little joy.

"I think they need to smile a lot more. I need to smile more- that's why I'm wearing the nose. I had clown noses for a month before I actually wore one. It was difficult but now I actually look forward to it," Drummond said.

He plans to keep spreading smiles but thinks he may need to go indoors for winter, if the malls will let him.

Drummond has his own Facebook page called Drummin' Up Smiles and says that he hopes to volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association.
