Mental health is on the minds of many across Saskatchewan this week, as the province recognizes Mental Health Week.

This year, the theme is empathy. The ability to recognize and sympathize with others helps to support people struggling with any ailment, including mental health issues.

Todd Vallee, executive director of the Swift Current branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, details what they are asking of the public with this theme.

"We're asking folks to look inward and take a look and see where their skill level is with being empathetic," stated Vallee.

Plenty of folks are already showing that they understand what's happening with others, and there are those who recognize when they themselves need to be reaching out for help.

"We're seeing more folks reach out for help," praised Vallee. "We want to be there for them."

The good doctors and professionals at the CMHA in Swift Current and other locations are there to help people in need of their services. They do this by providing resources, and professionals who can help guide people to the services they need. Even if it's not available in Swift Current, they will work with individuals to find where they can get the services they require.
