Swift Current City Council has declared the week of May 1-7 to be Mental Health Week in the City.

Cortney Reyonlds, Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), made a special presentation at city council about mental health and the services CMHA provides.

"CMHA is one of the oldest and largest non-profit organizations in Canada," she said. "It will be celebrating 100 years in 2018. In Swift Current, CMHA has been active for more than 30 years. We serve a nutritious breakfast and hot lunch Monday thru Friday with 7325 meals being served in 2016. We have approximately 45 members who access our daily programs."

She says having a declared mental heath week is important for the community.

"We all have mental health. Whether or not you have a mental health issue, you very likely know and love someone who does," "This is why the Canadian Mental Health Association is asking people to get loud for mental health week. To get loud means speaking up to stop discriminiation against people struggling with mental illness."

The Swift Current Branch of the CMHA served 7200 meals in 2016 to those struggling with mental health issues.
