Swift Current volleyball was represented on the world stage last week in Colima, Mexico, as two former Swift Current Comp Colts were on Team Canada's Men's B Team at the 2019 Pan Am Cup.

Dylan Mortensen and Braedon Friesen were battling with the Maple Volleys B team en route to a 7th place finish.

Mortensen, Friesen, and the Canadians went 1-2 in Group A play:

Won 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-16) over Suriname

Friesen - 8 kills, 1 error on 13 attempts
Mortensen - 0 kills, 1 error on 3 attempts

Lost 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 19-25) to Cuba

Friesen - 2 kills, 1 error on 7 attempts

Lost 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 21-25) to Argentina

Friesen - 3 kills on 3 attempts

The three-set losses to Cuba and Argentina were as tough of a test as the Canadians would encounter, as the Cubans went on to win gold in the final... against Argentina.

The Swift duo and Canada then topped the Dominican Republic in three sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-14) to advance to the 7th place game.

There, Canada edged Peru in a five-set thriller (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 17-15).

Friesen came to play in the finale, boasting a strong closing stat line. He racked up 13 kills and five errors on 22 attempts.

Mortensen, a U of S Huskie, and Friesen, a U of A Golden Bear, were two of only three Saskatchewan-born players on Team Canada.
