Swift Current residents are encouraged to show their support by walking for someone with MS.

The city is having their annual MS Walk this Sunday at 1:00 pm, with registration at 12:00 at the Ashley Park Hall.

The annual walk has been going on for several years in Swift Current, and Janet Nicholson, Communications Manager of the MS Society of Canada, Saskatchewan Division said it's great to see all the new faces taking part every year.

"Last year we had 68 participants, and we raised over $15,000," Nicholson said, "so hopefully we get at least that much this year, or maybe a little bit more."

This year they have around half that number registered, but they do get a lot of walk-ons on the day of.

"You do have to raise a minimum of $20, it's not a registration fee, so it does go right into the fundraising total, so if you do want to show up just bring your $20, and I know in Swift Current they do allow dogs to walk, or if you have kids, there is just the $20 per person."

There are around 3500 people and families affected by MS in the province, so community support is extremely important.

"MS is a very costly disease, whether its through medication maybe if people don't have enough coverage, or it could be mobility supplies or other things to help them get around, maybe they need to hire someone to mow their lawn."
