Swift Current residents had the opportunity to attend a Multicultural workshop yesterday at the Lyric Theatre.

The workshop, titled 'Understanding Diversity', was put on by the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan.

It took a look at diversity in the province as well as in the workplace.

Rhonda Rosenberg, Executive Director of the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan, explains the basis of what she hopes people took away from the workshop.

"What kinds of things we can do that are helpful to make people feel welcome and make sure that we're getting the benefits of having diverse cultural perspectives.

We know that when we have more people with diversity around the table, that it breeds creativity and innovation - it helps find the best way of doing things," she said.

The Executive Director also explains advice she gives at the workshop that can be used in everyday life.

"We all need to question our assumptions - we all carry them around with us.

One of the most useful things for myself is to catch myself when I make assumptions - we make them, it's human nature.

As well I let myself be open to getting to know the individual or group of people that I'm with," she said.

The final event of Swift Current's 'Multicultural Week' is a Potluck at 6 pm and movie at 7 pm at the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre.
