The number of Employment Insurance beneficiaries in Saskatchewan has decreased for the 14th month in a row, according to the latest numbers from Stats Canada.

The latest report in may shows that 10,520 people in Saskatchewan were receiving regular EI benefits, a decrease of more than 2300 people, or a drop of 18%, over the same month in 2010. Saskatchewan also has the second-fewest number of EI beneficiaries among the provinces, just behind Alberta.

Provincial Advanced Education, Employment, and Immigration Minister Rob Norris says although there is more work to be done, the numbers are very positive for Saskatchewan.

Norris adds there are still plenty of opportunities for people looking for work in Saskatchewan, with over 8500 job openings posted on the government's saskjobs.ca website.
