Swift Current City Council

Following the news of the City and the RM of Swift Current coming to an agreement on annexing more land to expand on the south side, there's also more good news about the growth towards the northeast side of the city.

Mayor Jerrod Schafer said this is a very busy area, and a huge part of the future growth of the city, due a lot in part to its proximity to the highway.

"There's a lot of commercial land out there that is already developed, there is a lot that is developed and ready for sale, and a tremendous amount of development is going to continue," Mayor Schafer said, "and before any of that stuff can happen, we've gotta start with your trenches in the ground and putting in sewer and water lines, and last night we approved the contract of continuing deep development with water and sewer."

Schafer also encouraged anyone who hasn't been out there to see the new commercial and residential development to do so.

"Of course as the hospital is out there and we're working with the province and the health region for long term care, we've got two brand new schools going up out there, along with a new personal care home, and Dr. Reimer is building a new office out there as well."

Schafer is excited to see the development continue and this area of the city begin to take shape.
