While you should always wear your seatbelt and be cautious of pedestrians, tomorrow and Thursday you may want to take a little extra care to do so.

Law Enforcement across the province will be looking for drivers failing to yield to pedestrians, pedestrians jaywalking and drivers and passengers not wearing their seabelt.

Kim Hambleton, Communications Manager with SGI said this blitz was planned appropriately given the time of year.

"Pedestrians of course is a time that is appropriate for summer because there's definitely more people out and about," said Hambleton, "and it's just a reminder both for drivers that they need to be on the lookout for pedestrians, that they have to yield for them at intersections, and also it's a reminder for pedestrians that they need to cross at intersections, because jaywalking can be dangerous."

She added they choose to focus on seatbelt safety quite often in these blitzes because it can reduce your chances of being injured or killed in a collision by more than half.

"It's actually kind of surprising how many tickets we still see for people not wearing a seatbelt in this day and age."

In 2012 in Saskatchewan, 18 pedestrians were killed and another 325 were injured in collisions, while improper or non-seatbelt use contributed to 47 deaths and 274 injuries.

Last month's blitz, Operation Hang Up Buckle Up which focused on cellphone and seatbelt use while driving resulted in 412 tickets across Saskatchewan.
