A large police presence at Swift Current's Walmart this afternoon saw one man and one woman detained and shortly later released.

The man who was released said that he didn't want to comment, but did mention that the source of the police response was the airsoft gun that he bought for his child. Swift Current City Staff Seargent Kelly Guider later confirmed this.

An eyewitness who was at the scene said that police arrived with their guns drawn and removed the man and woman, along with a backpack from the semi truck which the pair were travelling in. Guider also confirmed this.

Explaining the reason for the swift response, Guider said that they had received a report of a woman holding a pistol in a cab of a semi-truck.

"Its a very serious call for us to respond to, especially in the city, we don't get a lot of those, but officers were able to respond in that manner and make sure the situation was safe."

Guider elaborated on the happy ending to the harrowing report.

"After the arrest, and after everything was determined to be safe, there was no evidence of an offence taking place, so the two individuals were released without charge."

The witness said that at the time of arrival, shouts of "where's the woman" were given by police.

Around seven police cars were on scene to address the situation just before 4 p.m., and dispersed from it at around 4:45 pm.
