Effective immediately, all repeat drunk driving offences, by way of indictment and upon conviction, may have their vehicles forfeited.

This can occur in such instances where an offender has two impaired driving convictions within two years; three or more convictions within four years; or a prior conviction within two years of the date of the current offence, plus two or more within four years.  It could also occur when a repeat offender is convicted of impaired driving causing bodily harm or death.

Proceeds from vehicle seizures will go toward victim services, and education about drinking and driving.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Don Morris says Saskatchewan voted to keep their communities safer, and the government is following through on its promise to decrease the number of drunk driving offences in the province.
