Fraud Awareness is part of a national crime prevention campaign to increase Canadians' awareness of different types of fraud.

Consumers should be wary of lottery, vacation, and Nigerian letter scams.  Some scams also involve online classified ads, and work from home.

Recently, RCMP have noticed fraudsters who are instructing consumers to transfer money from their personal bank account directly into the fraudster's bank account via online banking transfer systems.

Consumers must be careful when buying and selling via online classifieds, and on social networking sites.  Be sure to check with your financial institution regarding possible protections that may be offered against fraud.
