The Saskatchewan Mining Association's Rock'n the Classroom GeoVenture Program is in full swing this week, with stops in Grasslands National Park as well at the T-rex Discovery Center in Eastend.

The 6 day tour visits active mining operations for potash, uranium and coal and resource centres throughout the province to better understand concepts about mining and the science behind it.

"Each year we take 20 to 24 educators from around the province to visit active mining operations for uranium, potash and coal, as well as some of the resource centres around the province to help explain some of the concepts about mining and earth science so they can see it firsthand. We also provide free curriculum correlated resource material that's relevant for Saskatchewan students," said Executive Director of SMA, Pam Schwann.

She tells us about their visit to Grasslands National Park set for Monday afternoon, just one of many on the tour.

"We're going to be hiking part of the 70 Mile Butte trail and looking at the rock formations there, looking at what type of rocks are there, talking about what type of environment would have been in existence when those sediments were laid down about 60 to 80 million years ago," said Schwann.
