Maple Creek Mayor Barry Rudd will be staying on for four more years after he won by acclamation when nominations closed last week.

Rudd was first elected Mayor in 2009, and faced a big challenge in just his first year on the job when Maple Creek was hit with a devestating flood in June 2010.

"It was a challenge, but it was a good challenge," Rudd said. "It really brought the community together and made everyone work together after we had the flood, so there was some positives that came out of that disaster that we did have."

Looking forward, Rudd says he is excited about the progress of the Main Street Saskatchewan Program, which Maple Creek was named one of four pilot communities for, and the upcoming construction of the town's new healthcare facility.

"The Main Street Program is a big one for the community to bring the downtown up to a standard, or restore the face of the buildings to what they were originally. It's sort of a theme, but then again, it's not as what they were originally," he added. "The new Southwest Integrated Healthcare facility is going to be something so people can come and know that there's healthcare here, and not unlike any other community in the southwest or rural Saskatchewan, it's a worry for everyone, and especially when you get seniors, or even people with families moving to the community, if you don't have good healthcare, they really don't want to come here, and if you don't have young people that want to come here, you're not going to get businesses set up here, either."

Six council members and the public school board trustee for Maple Creek were also acclaimed.
