As temperatures warm and summer holidays near, CAA Saskatchewan is reminding motorists to utilize driving safety tips and make their travels as safe as possible.

"SGI statistics show that driver distraction and in-attention are responsible for about 25 per cent of all collisions on Saskatchewan roads," explained Lisa Wilson-Sturm, Director of Communications for CAA Saskatchewan. "A lot of us have GPS systems but make sure that we're not distracted by those as we drive. If we do have to read a map, make sure we pull over to do that. Of course, turn that cell phone off and pull over if you need to text or to talk on the phone. Even tending to your children, make sure they have lots of games and books and other activities so they're not a distraction as well."

Statistics also show that collisions increase around long-weekends, so motorists should pay extra attention around holidays and never drink and drive.

Wilson-Sturm added that charting your route in advance to avoid construction zones is a great way to avoid delays and travel in a timely fashion without speeding.

Visit the Department of Highways website for up-to-date construction zone information.
