More people are calling Saskatchewan home, in fact, our province's population is growing at its fastest pace in over 90 years.

"It's another good day for the province to be able to celebrate the fastest year of growth since 1921 and the fastest quarter of population growth since the statistics were recorded," Premier Brad Wall told reporters on Thursday.

Numbers from Statistics Canada show Saskatchewan's population rose by just over 22,000 residents from July 1, 2011 to July 1st of this year, and from April to July 2012, our population grew by 6800, the largest increase in a single quarter since the stats agency started keeping quarterly records in 1971.

Since 2007, Saskatchewan's population has grown by 80,000 people, and Wall says the growth is exceeding their goal of 100,000 people in 10 years.

"Hopefully we create the right environment, or the very least, we don't get in the way of those who are creating the jobs," wall said. "I think it takes a complete growth agenda, competitive taxes, and aggressive engagement effort on the part of our government on the trade file, but also in terms of immigration. We have to keep up with the challenges of growth in terms of housing and infrastructure."

Wall adds Saskatchewan has the highest rate of international migration year-over year, and between April and June alone, 4000 new immigrants arrived here.

"We have set bolder goals in terms of our immigration targets, we've increased funding for settlement services, we've refined the processes, and just the act of increasing the targets significantly over what they were previously has us in a position where we wanted to be," he added.

Saskatchewan's population stood at 1,079,958 on July 1st, 2012.
