The Swift Current Fire Department issued a media release regarding the major fire that took place in Swift Current Friday evening.

At 6:28pm, the SCFD was dispatched to a structure fire on Russel Crescent and arrived in just under five minutes, reaching the scene at 6:33pm.

Along with the Fire Department, RCMP, Ambulance, SaskEnergy and City Light and Power also responded to the scene.

Upon the SCFD's arrival, the initial residence was fully engulfed in flames and had extended to both adjacent properties.

According to the SCFD, the wind played a factor in the incident, contributing to the acceleration of the fire.

Despite the size of the fire, there were no injuries.

As of Saturday morning, the cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further comments will be issued by the SCFD until the investigation is complete.

Given the unexpected and unimaginable circumstances, a GoFundMe account has been set up for two of the families involved, where donations can be made to help get them back on their feet.

Nearly $10,000 had been raised after two hours for the family whose home was directly impacted by the blaze.

A trust fund has also been set up at the Innovation Credit Union under the name "Lyris Davis Trust Fund" as another method for contributions to be made.
