In a recent news release, SGI revealed that 341 impaired driving offences were reported in the month of August.

Among these reports were 295 drivers charged with impaired driving, and 46 other drivers who were issued roadside administrative suspensions.

Impaired driving remains the top cause of fatal road crashes in Saskatchewan. While police are doing their part, it is important to remember that other drivers on the road have a responsibility to report dangerous drivers.

The Fall season has just arrived, and with it comes a unique set of challenges. During the fall, it is recommended to avoid braking on leaves, as wet leaves can be as slippery as ice. Bridges are also more dangerous in the fall, as morning frost can leave icy patches on bridges, overpasses, and even shaded areas.

Sun glare can also become a challenge. There is a window of time (about 15 to 45 minutes) where the sunrise and sunset make for more difficult driving. This is because the sun perfectly aligns with east/west roadways during this time. Grab a good pair of sunglasses for the daytime, keep your windshield clean and use north/south streets or streets with tree cover when possible.

Deer also become a more common hazard during the Fall season. Autumn marks the beginning of deer breeding season and they will be more active in areas near the road. Deer are most active during sunset and sunrise so be extra watchful when driving near the woods and near deer crossing signs.

Other reports from SGI include 7,762 aggressive driving or speeding charges, 949 distracted driving offences, and 632 inappropriate or no seat-belt/child restraint offences.
