Shaunavon Credit Union's Board of Director's are in the process of exploring the possibilities of a potential merger between the Credit Union chain.

Throughout the past several years, the Shaunavon Credit Union, and all Credit Unions in Saskatchewan, have been faced with unprecedented industry upheaval, increased regulation and competitive challenges.

"We've been on the backburner as to what a merger could do for us, and what the key triggers would be in order for us to start looking," said Board President Lisa Kutschall, "and although we're financially strong and we have a lot going for us in the community, we're just looking forward and thinking, perhaps with what's happening in today's industry, maybe down the road it could be beneficial to us and our members."

During 2013, they will be doing surveys and focus groups to determine if a merger is in the best interests of their members, and thoughout the process the communication lines will be kept open with members and staff and it will be business as usual for everyone.

"Next year will be a big year for us in determining if this is the right step and is this the way we want to go." Kutschall added.

The local Credit Union is strong and has strong values. Their goal for this merger is to take the service members enjoy today to an even higher level and retain that service in the Shaunavon district well into the future.
