After a wet weekend that plagued much of southwest Saskatchewan, The SPARC research center in Swift Current has recorded some significant numbers. 

"From August 20th to the 24th we received 69.7mm of precipitation at SPARC. On the 24th of August we received 41.2 mm in a 24 hour period, breaking the old record for the 24th of 17.3mm," said Agrometeorology Technician Jason Nimegeers.

Nimegeers adds with almost constant precipitation for 22 hours out of the 24 hour day on Sunday helped break the record.  The all-time 24 hour record occurred on June 14th 1964 with 91.9mm of rainfall.

SPARC research center has been recording data for the past 129 years from everything to air temperatures to precipitation data from snow to rain.

Nimegeers says that the kind of precipitation experience for the month of August is above normal for this time of year.  

"Average precipitation for the week of August is 13.3mm the current record for the last week of August is 76.4mm presently we are at 50.9mm so well above average and we are closing in on a record. Although it would be best for everything to stay dry at this point, "said Nimegeers. "The record for the month of August when compared with all the August's across the board 129th years 153.4mm. Currently we are sitting 7th with 101.8 mm of precipitation."

The accumulative average normally seen in the last week of August is 280.7 mm, while at this time we have seen a total of 358.7mm.

The forecast is currently showing sunshine till about Friday to give us a break from the rain.
