The time has come once again for musical talent to begin flowing through the City of Swift Current, and this year is getting more response than ever.

The Swift Current Arts Council is gearing up to start another season of the increasingly popular Stars for Saskatchewan concert series, which showcases Canadian artists in a family-friendly, upscale setting.

Helen Arnold, the administrator for the Swift Current Arts Council, has had a very important hand in organizing this season of events.

“Our first event is Pavlo, a Canadian musician,” stated Arnold. “He's a guitarist who blends Greek, flamenco, Latin, and Balkan influences into what he describes as contemporary pop or Mediterranean music. He's performed all over the world, so it should be a very interesting performance.”

Pavlo is set to perform tonight at 7:30 at the Living Sky Casino.

People are not only just excited for Pavlo, as the increases in ticket sales and subscriptions indicate a very receptive crowd for the season as a whole. Arnold noticed an uptick in people taking advantage of the Three-for-$99 promotional ticket package.

Beyond the Stars for Saskatchewan, the Arts Council will also be facilitating two more concerts.

“We have a show coming up in November called ‘Oh What a Night!’,” said Arnold. “It's a tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and that show is just about sold out already. We have the great Canadian road trip, which is Jason McCoy, Michelle Wright, and Doc Walker coming on February 29th on leap year day. That show has been very popular as well.”

Although the concerts are a great attraction for most Swift Current residents and visitors, not everyone has the opportunity or the means to attend. The Arts Council combats this with community outreach.

“We try to look for extra ways to engage the public and bring performances to the community,” she stated. “We try to bring shows to schools or senior residences when the performers can give us some community outreach... I think those are our two most prominent underserved populations as far as the arts are concerned.”
