Summer will officially arrive just before suppertime.

Today is officially the first day of summer, with the summer solstice coming at 5:59pm this afternoon.

That is the time when the tilt of the Earth's axis will be the most towards the sun, meaning we will have more daylight hours today than any other day of the year.

The sun rose this morning at 4:59am, and will set tonight at 9:25, giving us 16.5 hours of daylight today.

   Summer ends on September 22.
