Junior SWAC volleyball playoffs will be completed within the week. The A/B section tournaments ran on Saturday, November 6. Host sites were Consul and Frontier for the girls and Leader hosted a boy’s playoff. The SCCHS gr 9 boys had already won their section championship held earlier in the week.

After the dust settled on the section finals, Shaunavon boys will host the SCCHS gr 9 boys to play for the SWAC junior title on Wednesday, November 10 at 5:00 p.m. Gull Lake junior girls meanwhile will travel to SC Ecole Centennial for the SWAC junior girls title match today at 4:30 p.m.

The SWAC senior volleyball league has wrapped up for another year. The girl’s semifinals had #4 Ponteix against #1 Maple Creek and #3 Shaunavon at #2 Fronter. Ponteix and Frontier advanced to the final. After an exciting final match, Ponteix girls were crowned league champions in a 3-1 victory.

In the boy’s playoff, #4 Frontier played #Shaunavon and #3 Cabri played #2 Ponteix. Shaunavon and Ponteix met up in the final. Shaunavon took the league title with a 3-0 match win.

All high school volleyball teams have started their run for SHSAA provincial medals. The 1 - 4A girls participated in conferences on the November 5-6 weekend and the boys play November 12-13 weekend. Shaunavon boys and SCCHS Arden/Colt volleyball teams advance straight to their regional playoffs. Regional sites/hosts are determined by who advances.

On the November 5-6 volleyball weekend, Fox Valley, Hazlet, Frontier and Kincaid were at the Hazlet hosted SHSAA 1A girls conference playoffs. Fox Valley girls easily advanced to Regionals with a perfect 3-0 record at conferences. Fox Valley will host the 1A West Regional competition on November 13.

It was an all SWAC match-up in the last game, Hazlet and Frontier battled for the final qualifying spot in the regional tournament. It was a very close match, but Frontier came out on top (25-19, 25-21) and will also advance to Regionals.

Maple Creek girls hosted a 3A conference tournament. Shaunavon was one of the teams competing, but they didn’t finish the top 3 qualifying spots. Maple Creek fought hard in all their matches (3-1 record), and it paid off with them earning a second-place finish overall. Maple Creek moves on to the regional tournament.

2A girl’s teams, Leader, Gull Lake and Ponteix, were at a playoff in Eatonia with teams from Battle West district and West Central district. Gull Lake and Ponteix were eliminated after pool play. Leader, by finishing second in their pool, advanced to the playoff round but were defeated in the semifinal versus Wilke.

All our 2A girls’ volleyball teams have been eliminated from the SHSAA playoffs.

The SWAC boys volleyball teams will be at the SHSAA conference playoffs on November 12-13 weekend. Frontier boys will host a 1A boys conference tournament between Fox Valley, Vanguard, Cabri and Beechy.

2A Ponteix boys meanwhile will be at Moose Jaw Cornerstone with West Central district and South Central district teams. 2A Leader boys are in Wilke for their conference playoffs.

SWAC is excited to be hosting two Provincial Championships this season. The SHSAA Provincial 5A girl championship is at SCCHS on November 19-20 and the 1A boy provincial championship is in Fox Valley on November 26-27. There is no general admission to these events. Spectator passes are needed.

Just a friendly reminder that all SHSAA Conference, Regional and Provincial tournaments have a paid gate. The funds raised go to pay officials, purchase awards, and run high school sports championships across the province.

Tentative plans are being formed for SWAC and SHSAA winter sports; basketball, curling and wrestling.

Curling start date was November 8 while Basketball and Wrestling can begin on November 22.
