The Gull Lake EMS office and shop are getting something of a facelift.

The parking lot, as in the whole of the year, is being completely redone.

All of the old surface has been excavated, down to the last stitch of concrete and gravel.

Work will begin shortly on filling the space with a solid foundation for the newly paved surface, which will offer a safer, less challenging surface for first responders to call home base.

Brian Walters, a member of the Gull Lake EMS crew, is glad the work is being done.

"I'm not 100 per cent sure when the last time was that it was done," said Walters. "But it's always nice to get a little bit of a facelift."

The old parking lot and surface had drainage issues, often filling the space with water. With water, comes the worry that beneath the murky surface there may be a newly formed pothole, making it risky to pass through, and a hassle to go around when the parking lot is full of them.

This new surface will be set up for better drainage, and easier access to and from he shop bays.

Walters expects the work won't take too long, being done in a couple of weeks, or a month at the latest.
