National Cupcake Day is coming up next week, and the sweet treats will be available for purchase at multiple local businesses around Swift Current in support of homeless animals.

The annual event consists of local residents taking part in a city-wide fundraising bake sale, in which all proceeds are donated to the local animal shelter.

Ashley Muhle, fundraising manager for the Swift Current SPCA, said the annual event has dedicated support in the community.

"We do Cupcake Day every year and we have quite a few businesses that hop on board and help out our little furry friends," she said. "It's the sweetest way you can support the shelter."

So far for this installment cupcakes will be available for purchase at W.W. Smith and Studio 98 and Lily bean Cookies and Cupcakes has donated four dozen for the SPCA Bookstore and Shelter to sell.

Anyone can take part in the Feb. 26 event, including but not limited to individuals, businesses, stores, local clubs, schools and organizations. Bake or buy some cupcakes and choose a price to sell them to coworkers, clients and friends.

To register, email Muhle at scspcafundraiser@gmail.com or call or text her at (306) 315-0257.

The shelter is still running its $24 for 2024 and $51 for 51 Years campaign, with all donations going towards local SPCA operations.
