Teach life-long learning to a child, and the whole family grows.

This is Family Literacy Day across Canada, a time to reflect on the importance parents and family members play in the development of the child.

Bula Ghosh is the Basic Education Coordinator at Cypress Hills College, and is the chair of the Southwest Literacy Committee. She says that nothing is wrong with watching television if it is watched in a purposeful manner. Ghosh adds that television should not be used as a baby-sitter, but as a learning tool.

There are several activities planned at the Swift Current Mall today, stating at 10 o'clock. They include celebrity readings, games and a book fair.

Family Literacy Day was started in 1999 through an initiative of ABC Canada.
