Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan's best businesses were honoured Friday night at the SCBex Awards at the Sky Centre.

Wallace Construction took home the big award, the Business of the Year.

Owner and Operator Darrel Wallace says the honour is very gratifying, and an awesome feeling.  "We've been in business a little over 30 years now, and to be recognized in this fashion, it's just... words can't express my gratitude and my happiness for our company, and just being part of this great city."

Wallace adds, they see nothing but good things ahead for Swift Current and Saskatchewan.  "We have good leadership in Premier Brad Wall and Mayor Jerrod Schafer; we have good things to look forward to, and we're glad to be a part of it."

Also honoured Friday night were the Business Hall of Fame Inductees, RJ Moving and Storage, and Pharmasave.

Pharmasave has been in Swift Current for 55 years, and Partner Al Chilton says it's such an honour to be one of the city's longest-running businesses, and looks ahead to the future.  He says "Standard Motors has been here a hundred years providing wonderful customer service, and we want to emulate them, because when you are put in the Hall of Fame, sometimes people say 'that's the end'.  To us, it's just the beginning."

Chilton says there is a single key piece of advice for keeping a business successful, and that is "Listening to your customers.  They have all the answers; you don't have to think of anything, and be responsive to those needs.  You don't always succeed, but you always have to try, and that's all they want is to know you tried."

The other award winners were, Collier's DSM Laboratories for New Business of the Year, Rejuvenate Day Spa won for Young Entrepreneur, Herbal Magic took Customer Service honours, Armstrong Implements won the Growth and Expansion award, M&M Meat Shops took home the Community Involvement Award, and Winquist Ventures won the Southwest Award.
