Crews are on the scene and work continues to restore natural gas service to customers in the 5th Ave. northeast and Sydney Street area of Swift Current after natural gas lines ruptured when a trench collapsed early this morning.
Manager of Communications for SaskEnergy Dave Burdeniuk says right now 8 customers are without service and he anticipates full service will be restored later this afternoon (Wednesday).
Burdeniuk says they are thankful no one was hurt and adds SaskEnergy crews also had tremendous cooperation and help from local emergency organizations including the Swift Current and District Fire Department and RCMP.
Emergency response crews evacuated a 6 square block radius this morning but all evacuees have been able to return to their residences.
