The Edmonton Oil Kings showed why they lead the WHL's Eastern Conference, blowing out the Swift Current Broncos 6-1 last night at the Credit Union iplex.

Tyler Maxwell and Mark Pysyk helped Edmonton build a 6-0 lead with a pair of goals each, before Coda Gordon broke the shutout bid in the third period.

Broncos goalie Jon Groenheyde was not the same in net as he had been this month, as he was pulled after allowing four goals on 15 shots. Austin Smith made 13 saves in relief.

There was a very scary moment late in the game, as Edmonton defenseman Mason Geertsen was carried off on a stretcher after a hard hit into the boards late in the game. He is said to have suffered a concussion, and was kept in hospital overnight for observation.

The Broncos now head to Medicine Hat to take on the Tigers tonight. The game is on the Eagle 94.1 starting with the pre-game show at 8:00pm.
