Manny Viveiros knows his team pretty well.

Before Sunday's game in Edmonton the Swift Current Broncos Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel acknowledged they were disappointed with a loss in Red Deer the night before, but had faith in his group.

"One thing about this team is whenever we have an outing like that we come back with a strong game."

That's exactly what happened as the Broncos dominated the Oil Kings from start to finish with an 8-0 victory.

“It was a good bounce-back game,” said Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith. “We addressed last night and we moved on. I thought our guys did a good job of that from the drop of the puck. I just think we kept it simple. We did a lot of things faster. Last night we seemed to drag the puck into our own end and that got us into trouble a lot. Tonight we moved it forward, moved it north... the power play clicked right off the bat, the penalty kill was good on the start and those things help you build momentum early.”

Glenn Gawdin and Beck Malenstyn each had four point games to lead the way for Swift Current. It's almost become old hat for Gawdin who leads the WHL with 117 points, but Malenstyn has really come on strong lately with 13 points in his last 9 games.

"He's been steadily getting better," Smith said. "His speed really puts you on your heels. He strips pucks, he finishes checks and it's nice to see him pop a goal too... Beck was real good."

Swift Current also got two goals from Tyler Steenbergen who is up to 43 goals on the season. Sahvan Khaira, Matteo Gennaro and Giorgio Estephan all also had two point efforts in the Swift Current victory.

Stuart Skinner made 20 saves for his sixth shutout of the season.

16-year-old defenceman Connor Horning got in on the act in the third period with a nice move from the wall to the front of the net with a deke to his backhand for his third of the season.

"That's a nice goal," Smith said. "He drives down the wall on your bench you're thinking don't turn it over and the next thing you know he's in front of the net and puts it in. Horns is coming."

The Broncos struck twice shorthanded in the game and held the Oil Kings to 0 for 6 on the man advantage. Swift Current only went 1 for 7 on their power play, but four of them came in the third period when the game was already well out of reach.

Coach Viveiros again shuffled the lines putting Gawdin, Gennaro and Estephan together for the first time with Aleksi Heponiemi centering Steenbergen and Malenstyn.

"I thought the three 20-year-olds generated a lot of offence,"  Smith said of Gawdin, Gennaro and Estepha. "They could have had five or six goals themselves. You put good players together generally they can find each other and find holes. We're experimenting still we're trying to find what works. We wanted to experiment with (Heponiemi) at centre. It's better to do it now than wait until mid-series when you're down and you're scrambling. At least now we can work on some stuff."

The Broncos won the season series with Edmonton 3-1 outscoring the Oil Kings 23-2 in those three wins.

Swift Current's Tanner Nagel appeared to be injured after taking a hard punch from Colton Kehler in a fight and landing hard on the ice. Nagel and Kehler both received game misconducts and there is no official update yet on Nagel's condition.

The Broncos remain two points back of Moose Jaw for first place in the WHL. The Warriors also have two games in hand.

Next action for Swift Current is Tuesday morning in Calgary in a game scheduled for students during the school day. Listen live for Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 11:30am Tuesday on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
