Denis Bosc

Ryan Bloom and Denis Bosc are headed home.

The Swift Current Broncos re-assigned the smaller forwards to Junior A teams in Alberta and Manitoba respectively. Both stand 5'9" but their situations are very different.

Bloom is entering his 18-year-old season and joined Swift Current as part of the Cody Eakin trade with Kootenay last January. While he scored 21 points in 20 AJHL games with Drumheller, the Calgary native only produced 2 points in 29 WHL games last season. He scored twice in three pre-season games.

"He's more of a skilled guy and he didn't fit into our top six," said Broncos Coach/GM Mark Lamb.

"He has to go back, get some seasoning and play a lot of hockey."

Bosc was one of four 16-year-olds still battling for a roster spot. He scored in his last game against Regina and produced 24 points in 37 Midget AAA games last season.

"We just signed (Bosc) and feel he is going to be a big part of our future," Lamb said.

"He was one of the great surprises of camp."

Zac Mackay, Dillon Heatherington and Bobby Zinkan are the only 1995 born players still in camp.

The Broncos are now down to 26 players with two exhibition games to play in Prince Albert on Friday and in Shaunavon against the Raiders on Saturday. You can hear Saturday's game live on The Eagle 94.1 FM and CJSN in Shaunavon.

WITTMAN SIGNS

Swift Current also signed Stewart Valley native Jordan Wittman to a WHL contract today.

The Broncos picked Wittman early in the third round of this year's WHL bantam draft. He had 53 points in 22 games with the Kabos Bantam Raiders last season.

"He had a really good camp also," Lamb said.

"I think he is one of those guys that is going to have a great future with the Broncos."

Swift Current has now signed all five of their top picks from the recent draft. Wittman will play with the Midget AAA Home Hardware Legionnaires this season.

SOBERG DRAMA CONTINUES

Goaltender Steffen Soberg is apparently denying claims by the Broncos that he left the team to deal with personal issues. Soberg is quoted on a Swedish hockey website saying any personal problems were exaggerated and the only reason he left is that he does not want to be in Swift Current.

The Norwegian goaltender told the website he is not ready to move that far away from home.

Both Lamb and Washington Capitals goaltender coach Dave Prior suggested recently that Soberg could return to Swift Current once his personal issues were resolved. Soberg's comments would appear to at least partially squash those hopes.
