The Swift Current Broncos are off to Lethbridge tonight for their second recent game with the rejuvinated Hurricanes.

After years out of the playoffs, Lethbridge is 6-2 early this season including a win last Saturday over Swift Current.

Lethbridge made changes in the off season including the permanent installation of Peter Anholt as GM and addition of Brent Kisio as their head coach.

"We feel we've got some skill there," Anholt said. "We feel we can play any kind of game that teams want to play. It was just a matter of getting more structure to our game and certainly Brent and (assistant coach) Mike Craig have done that."

Lethbridge has some dynamic forwads like WHL goal leader Tyler Wong, Brayden Burke and Giorgio Estephan. With existing skill on their roster they made an effort to get more size in the off season.

"I just felt that we needed to be bigger," Anholt said. "We weren't big enough and we weren't hard enough to play against. Teams would take us too lightly. Nobody likes that identity. I think we've done that so far. I think our rink is harder to play in."

The Hurricanes had faced issues with players wanting out and questions about the organization's future. Anholt is hoping to provide some stability.

"If we could make good decisions every day," Anholt said. "Treat our players better, understand our players are our best assets, make sure that they understand we're going to create an environment for them to be successful and develop our players... if we do that over the long haul we're going to get some respectability back."

One player that Lethbridge moved on from in the summer is 18-year-old defenceman Kade Jensen. They dealt him to Swift Current for a draft pick and Jensen has become a regular in Swift Current's top four.

"Kade's a great kid," Anholt said. "I give him a lot of credit for battling through a lot of adversity the last two years in Lethbridge. It was probably just another situation where it was time for a change."

Swift Current won't have Jensen in their lineup this weekend. He received a two game suspension for a cross-checking major he took on Wednesday in Moose Jaw.

The Broncos are coming off three straight losses including that 5-3 defeat against Lethbridge last Saturday. They're hoping to get their defensive game back in order with games against the Hurricanes tonight and at home agaisnt Moose Jaw on Saturday.

Both games are live on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
