Swift Current Broncos Defenceman Dillon Heatherington and Team Canada will begin their quest for gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship when they face Slovakia in Montreal tonight (7:00pm, TSN 1, 3, 4, and 5).

Canada hasn't won gold at the tournament since 2009, and they've been shut out of the medals in each of the last two years with back-to-back fourth-place finishes in 2013 and 2014.

Heatherington, who has a goal and 11 points in 30 games with the Broncos this season, is on Team Canada as a 7th defenceman.

Meanwhile, goaltender Zach Fucale will get the start for Canada tonight. At last year's tournament in Sweden, Jake Paterson was in net for Canada's first two round-robin games, but a 5-4 shootout loss to the Czech Republic cost Paterson his spot and Fucale played the rest of the tournament.

In other action on day one, former Bronco Julius Honka and the defending champs from Finland will face the USA, Russia plays Denmark and the Czech Republic takes on Sweden.

The WHL will be off for one more day today before returning from the Christmas break with a full slate of games on Saturday. The Swift Current Broncos will start the second half when they host the Regina Pats. Face-off on Saturday is at 7:05pm from the Credit Union iplex and you can hear the game on the Eagle 94.1 starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
