Midget Indians Mets 3

After three straight provincial AA championships, the streak is over for the Swift Current Midget Indians.

But they didn't lose a game.

The Indians were left out of provincials this year because they earned an automatic spot in Westerns as a host team.

Not getting to defend their title was a pill they found somewhat tough to swallow.

Interview with Brennan Peterson"Kind of disappointing news to hear," said Coach Brennan Peterson. "Especially with the streak that our team has been having at provincials it would have been nice to play and see what would have happened."

The Midget Indians went 13-16 in Midget AAA league play this year, but Peterson noted after a slump they closed the season playing good ball.

"Our pitching kind of struggled a bit during that slide," he said. "We had to start to kind of preach to throw quality strikes down in the strike zone rather than up at the belt. We worked at that at practice and I think through the last few games of the year it started to show and we played a lot cleaner baseball."

They will be spending a lot of time at practice and setting up some exhibition games to stay sharp before Westerns start on August 16th.
